Secession Obsession

Recently I saw an exchange on "Dr." Rob Williams' Facebook page that gives truth to that old adage that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

He was getting some serious wood over the northeastern Colorado secession movement in a couple of Facebook posts when he received a challenge from a longtime ally and friend, Carolyn Baker and another person. Baker's a new agey lecturer that secessionists and gloom-and-doom types swoon over and covet every utterance as though unicorns shoot from her ass.

Even Baker was having a hard time swallowing Rob "Baghdad Rob" Williams' endorsement of the nascent Coloradan secesher troupe led by three Weld County Colorado commissioners with encouragement from the counties' virulently racist representative to Congress, Cory Gardner.

Rob rebounded by citing the pro-fracking, anti-gay, racist Colorado secesher movement as yet another thing that his failed Vermont secesher plot could disassociate from. Here's how the exchange went:

Given Rob's degree of pathology when it comes to anything secessionist, he seems incapable of recognizing or remembering that it was just this sort of cavorting with racists and homophobes back in 2007, then in the form of the racist League of the South and the deeply homophobic, Christian separatist Christian Exodus, who he'd invited to Burlington to lecture Vermonters on the true path to salvation, that led to his defunct hate journal's loss of a distribution deal with state's largest weekly, Seven Days, and the eventual demise of his "movement" into a sniveling group of 20 or so chronic and profoundly ineffectual complainers. Even Rob's co-founder and mentor, the Dixie singin' Thomas H. Naylor, had the good sense to throw in the towel last year, actuarially speaking.

No, it remains true that Rob, the old dog, is incapable of a new trick when it comes to homophobic, racist separatists - he continues to celebrate them. Claiming to be positioning himself to eventually "disassociate" from such hate groups isn't so much a new trick as it is mere evidence of the depth of his delusion.

There'll be no secession of northeastern Colorado, just as there will be no secession of Vermont.

Another One Bites The Dust

It's been a slow summer melt for the remnants of the Second Vermont Republic (SVR) and its hate blog at Vermont Commons that's managed by secessionist dick Rob Williams, although all he seems to do there now is post self-important movie reviews, usually with a secesher twist. Vermont Commons is the hate nest of racists, anti-Semites, homophobes, anti-Americans, neo-Confederates, anti-vaxxers, anti-national defense and just about very other fringer, conspiracist nutjob that can't get a post up at a legitimate website. Even the secesher movement's most bloated pom-pom girl calls SVR "defunct."

For the last few years William's nutters have had a little competition from an anti-Shumlin, anti-humanist, gay hating, racist, religious chauvinist weblog called CrockerPost. I once (and only once) wrote about the blog here. I doubt that my notice caused its proprietor, Warren Crocker Herrick, to throw in the towel as he did in early June. More likely it was the fact that the Southern Poverty Law Center had found his hate site and carried it on its list of "white nationalist hate groups" that caused him to flush his bowl of bile. The website proprietor "is an admirer of such (racist) hate sites as the Council of Conservative Citizens (formerly: the White Citizens Council), VDare and the Occidental Observer, as well as scumbags like Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter."

Course, no apology to the lesbian & gay families that he's repeatedly maligned, nor to the non-theist community that he's belittled by calling them all liars, nor to Vermont's black community, well, you get the idea. He sucks up to the highest state official that he can and says, without saying, "fuck you" to everyone else that he's gone to great lengths to shit on over the years and then with a shrug says, "Nevermind."

Crocker's unplugged his website but you can still see its mirror here at a conspiracy addled "news" site that is "an outlet for gibbering lunacy” that Crocker frequented and contributed to.

Good riddance to the bigoted asshole.

Keith Preston: A Tribute from A Secessionist Bigot for the Late Thomas H. Naylor

This one comes from Keith Preston, an anarcho, pan-secessionist, anti-immigrant, racial "realist" (Read: racist), anti-Semitic, segregation affirming homophobe who, naturally, has a few issues with women as well.

Preston has a history of supporting extremists like Naylor. Preston was a contributor to the white nationalist conference held by the National Policy Institute (NPI) in 2011. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the NPI is an active white nationalist group based in Georgia; there's more from the SPLC here. Here's NPI's website (and don't forget to wash when you're done). A project of the NPI on the web called Alternative Right which calls itself Euro-Centric (and we're not talking about currency) identifies Preston as a part of their editorial collective of white guys here.

He's been described as a "fascist in anarchist clothing," but I liken his style, both personal and in writing, as more like the Comic Book Guy, if the Comic Book Guy wore a swastika armband around the comic bookstore.

At his website, Attack The System, Preston wrote:

"It is with great regret that I must inform our readers of the passing of Thomas H. Naylor, founder of the Second Vermont Republic. I received word earlier this evening that Tom passed away last night after a sudden stroke at the age of 76."

"Fortunately, I was able to interview Tom for my podcast on Voice of Reason earlier this year..."

"Tom was the author of thirteen books, including three on secession, and one of his books, Downsizing the USA, was crucial in the development of my own political outlook. It was largely due to Tom’s influence that I came to realize that decentralized micronations achieved through pan-secession are the most viable alternative to the Leviathan mega-states that plague us today. I cannot recommend Tom’s voluminous body of writings of these issue(sic) highly enough..."

Yes, "Tom" was an inspiration to a racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic and plainly misogynistic dirtbag.

Here's an obscure, little known fact: Preston is the Secessionist Outreach Officer for Sebastian Ernst Ronin's (see post immediately below for more on Ronin) white supremacist Renaissance Party of North America, according to this post at Preston's website:

Mr. Ronin is the Chairman of the Renaissance Party of  North America (RPN), for which I am the Secessionist Outreach officer.  This is a brand new party, having been formed only in December of 2009, and it is the only political party in North America that I would even consider becoming involved with at present.  The party’s mission statement and philosophical outlook is light years ahead of any of its competitors, as it combines syndicalist/distributist economics, radical decentralization, “archeofuturism” and other ENR-inspired ideas, anti-globalism, peak oil theory, anti-Cultural Marxism, anti-political correctness, anti-imperialism, a Spenglerian view of history, pan-secessionism, race-realism, a strident yet reasonable environmentalism, a social conservatism that is measured and libertarian, neo-paganism within a wider spirit of religious toleration, and criticism of mass immigration in the name of civilizational survival and self-preservation.  In other words, all of the best and most far-sighted contemporary ideas are being pulled together into a unified and syncretic whole.

Not many people know that; fewer still care about these assholes.  These Naylor mourners are typical of his scumbag followers.

Vermont Secession Leader Calls Civil Rights "Irrevelant"

As Martin Luther King Day approached I wondered how to address a
recent statement regarding civil rights by a former Second Vermont Republic candidate for the office of Vermont Lt. Governor and "Vermont Commons" blogger, Peter Garritano. He calls them "irrelevant." Perhaps it's best to let him speak for himself:

"The ruling elite divide us by highlighting irrelevant issues and stoking the media. Don’t ask don’t tell, illegal immigrants,... gay marriage,..."

As those who follow this blog and have also looked at the seceshers posts on their own listserv (link below) know, the secesher crowd and their leaders completely absented themselves from the primary civil rights issue in Vermont for this century thus far - marriage equality. SVR founder and baas, Thomas Naylor, even has gone so far as to suggest that this is an issue that is yet to be settled by Vermonters under his proposed brave new republic.

Last year we learned that Naylor's other anointed executive candidate, middle finger waving gubernatorial candidate Dennis Steele, accepted and kept a donation from an out-of-state supporter of the Vermont seceshers who doesn't care much for lesbians or race mixing. Steele even argued that keeping the donation from a racist homophobe was a good thing, although most would agree that a candidate should return the befouled money or neutralize the contribution's intent by forwarding it to an appropriate civil rights group. Steele just pocketed it without once denouncing the donor, a fellow Free Vermont listserv member of Steele's. Naylor has even gone so far as to paint his motley collection of supporters as somehow being victims when they are fairly criticized by Vermonters for their bigoted ties and positions.

It's safe to say that with each new outrageous secesher revelation it is they who make themselves "irrelevant" to Vermonters.

Today In Secession History

150 years ago today, on December 20, 1860, South Carolina
became the first state to formally secede from the United States in the South's War to Preserve Slavery.

Similarly desirous of creating safe harbors for dominant cultures, "Vermont Commons" blogger, Carol Moore, has advocated for secession as a mode to provide for "homogeneous (Read: segregated) communities":

"Those "identity groups" of whatever identity who desire separation to preserve their culture or live out a vision or lifestyle should not have to waste time and resources in defending or fighting discrimination lawsuits and onerous zoning laws and can focus it on building community."

Just this past year the Lost Cause Northern neo-Confederates at VTCommons and the Second Vermont Republic gubernatorial candidate accepted and refused to return a contribution from an out-of-state contributor and member of the highly secret (until exposed on this blog) Free Vermont listserv. The contributor, James Duncan, has reservations about lesbians generally and race mixing in particular, and he looks forward to putting members of Vermont's law enforcement community on trial for as yet unspecified charges after the seceshers takeover.

In an often seemingly unhinged campaign that was laced with innuendo, invective and middle finger waving giddiness, Steele and his campaign staff sought to tap into baser emotions.

Since that campaign I've received an email from one secesher that, while toggling back and forth from apology to aggression, revealed the new strategy of the small Vermont secesher community for the coming year. It seems that "old times there are (to be) forgotten," while new lows in fact churning are to be employed so that up will become down, hot will become cold and white will become black - well, maybe not that last one so much. Gone are to be all recollections and rememberances of ties to League of the South advisors; or of former SVR co-chairman and current VTCommons honcho Rob Williams' infamous "Don't Ask, Don't Care" policy regarding the possible racism of contributors to his rag:

"(S)ome of our secession scholars - Don Livingston, for example - happen to be southerners. Anyone who has met and talked with Don knows the man is thoughtful and well-studied. Is he a racist? I don’t know. And frankly, it is none of my damn business, at a personal level."

Or of Thomas Naylor's revealing essay, "Minority States NOT Minority Rights".

And. of course, let's not forget while not forgetting, the early VTCommons white supremacist, racist, anti-Semitic, neo-Nazi contributor, UVM prof Robert S. Griffin, that I first reported on in February, 2007. Griffin, like Williams, had written a fawning review of Thomas J. DiLorenzo's anti-Lincoln, revisionist history. Vermont's press caught onto Griffin two years later, here, here and here (Sadly, the Times-Argus story that began the media hubbub more than two years after I first wrote about Griffin lies entombed behind their paywall.). Griffin's original VTCommons piece, although erased there, can be found at secesher and Council of Censors member Susan Ohanion's "education" website.

No doubt they'll call their upcoming reset for the Vermont secesher movement in 2011 a "Look Away" strategy. More on their re-branding effort in a future post.

Dennis Steele's Campaign Accepts Support from Out-of-state, Anti-Gay, Listserv Member

As you may have gathered by now, I've spent a considerable amount of time going through what can only be described as the increasingly screwy chat among the seceshers at the Free Vermont Listserv - seizing private property; destroying our schools; executing those that they would most likely identify as their political opponents, er, liars in governance; sacking our constitution.

The following message is particularly vile. It comes from Dennis Steele's top out-of-state campaign contributor.

The writer of the message, James Duncan, had veered from the topic of health care to launch into an utterly unwarranted homophobic rant that equated gay weddings with perversions. Oddly, both topics, marriage equality and health care, are what the baas of the Second Vermont Republic, Thomas Naylor, had told the group months earlier were too divisive for their upcoming election platform. Apparently Duncan didn't get, or chose ignore, baas Naylor's dictum while they were engaged in one of their tediously self-absorbed "if we ruled Vermont" fantasy camp style discussions.

Naylor, as well as those at the listserv, have a fetish about keeping things that would ultimately matter in the lives of average Vermonters as vague as possible - except for things like the "Israeli Mafia," of course. That's a biggie to the baas and others like Steele, and a primary reason why his group, in addition to having the "unmistakable tinge of racis(m) attached to it," one can also detect a distinct whiff of anti-Semitism, as well. This homophobic outburst stinks too.

"As with all our problems in America, good people keep hacking at the branches instead of getting to the root of the evil that plagues us. Hence the cycles of war, economic depression, cultural Marxism, etc. continue. I just had a perfectly pleasant day ruined by reading Vermont Magazine. In the Letters to the Editor column, an obnoxiously militant lesbian threatens to cancel her subscription unless they include gay weddings in their next Weddings issue. The individual is a public relations professor and chairperson at a university. How unfortunate that such a rude individual has a position of influence over young people. I guess everyone has their unique perversions but society would be best served if they kept them to themselves and their private circle. I resent having someone else's shoved in my face. At any rate, bandaids will be the order of the day until someone amputates the entire system."

I challenge Dennis Steele to return the $300 he's received from James Duncan, his largest out-of-state contributor who's accounted for more than 10% of his campaign contributions thus far, and that he issue a statement denouncing Duncan's hateful message, along with his own unqualified support for the Vermont Supreme Court's Baker decision, the legislature's ending of the separate but equal treatment of civil unions and the subsequent override of a Republican governor's veto of the new law by a super majority in both the Senate (25-5) and the House of Representatives (100-49) in the General Assembly.

Crickets aren't going to do on this one, Dennis.

Just a reminder that not so many weeks ago Thomas Naylor at SVR and "Vermont Commons" doucheno..., er, spokesperson, Rob Williams, had a major hissy fit when blogger Jon Margolis quite correctly pointed out "that Vermont's secessionist movement has an unmistakable tinge of racism attached to it." They took others in the Vermont media who were there to task for their silence after Margolis' remarks. I can't think of anything they could have said except for maybe, "Uh huh, Jon."

By the Williams/Naylor standard, silence now will mean that Steele, Williams and Naylor stand with their out-of-state, homophobic contributor, James Duncan of Melville, NY.

And just as with their continuing associations with the League of the South past and present members, this kind of ally is a fair indicator of what the Vermont secession crowd could very well have in store for the average Vermonter. The reopening of old wounds caused by the forces of bigotry has no benefit except to the would-be oppressors.

Note to Rob: Maybe taking money from outspoken homophobes is what you meant when you said that Vermont seceshers espouse "the decentralist "beyond red and blue business as usual" politics of secession." I urge that you, Naylor, and your toady, Arthur "Circle Jerk + Lube = Teh Gay" Loose, join me in demanding that Steele return the money from an out-of-state, overtly homophobic source.

Give back the money, Dennis!!
