Secession Strategies In The Old South and Vermont
An interesting piece by Manisha Sinha, a co-signer of the 2009, 2010, and 2011 letters to President Obama to not send a wreath to the Arlington Confederate Monument, appeared in yesterday's New York Times, entitled "The Strange Victory of the Palmetto State." Well worth the read.
The slaver seceshers of the Old South's strategy bears an interesting resemblance to that of the Second Vermont Republic and its sister organization, "Vermont Commons" - an appeal to base fears that are amped up by allusions to conspiracies and threats to peaceful existence. Similarities abound, right down to language, such as The Old South's "Dis-United States" and VTCommons publisher, Rob Williams', "Untied States of America."
In other words, not so clever bullshit.
