Yet Another Cheesy Position on Race Matters By Thomas H. Naylor
When I first started this blog it was because I had discovered what the Vermont media had missed completely about Second Vermont Republic and "Vermont Commons".   Mainly, that the two were strongly associated with racists groups and people, and that they hadn't a bit of concern over such associations.   My own feelings about Vermont seceding were (and continue to be) ambivalent.   The idea of Vermont actually seceding is now best described as badly damaged goods.
Thomas Naylor's past involvement with the white supremacist group known as the League of the South, as well as his being there at the founding of the racist Southern Party, pretty much tells you where he was coming from then, despite his protestations of having been a Lamar Society member in good standing (unconfirmable) and that by virtue of that sort of propinquity he must then be a FOB (Friend of Julian Bond).   Interestingly, Naylor maintains his devotion to contradiction in his rant about the Southern Poverty Law Center, a frequent source for this blog, where Bond now sits on the Board of Directors.   [1] major hat-tip to odum for this one
Naylor's organization and writings continue to receive kudos and note from various extremists like the neo-Nazi group Vanguard News Network. [2] [3] [4]
According to the FAQ section at VTCommons "the Second Vermont Republic takes no official position on such controversial issues as abortion, gay marriage, school prayer, and legalizing marijuana."   Now I know that "forced integration" isn't exactly a burning issue here in Vermont, yet for some reason Naylor chose to go on about it in that rambling way of his, not very long ago at his website. [5]   In his piece, albeit in a weirdly round-about way, Naylor makes clear that he's okay with the idea of secession leading to separatist exclusionary states.   His throwaway remark that bad ideas like segregation and white supremacy are merely ideas that can be summed up as "different strokes for different folks" betrays the casual evil in his thought process.
The forced integration issue he raises is a touchstone for white supremacist and racist groups around the country like the Council of Conservative Citizens (formerly the White Citizens Council), as articulated by the racist writer, the late Samuel Francis [6] , David Duke [7], the Ku Klux Klan [8], as well as a frequent chat topic in white nationalist/racist forums. [9]
An earlier, detailed analysis of Naylor's writings on "forced integration" can be found here.
That said, Thomas Naylor, described by supporters as a "founding father" of the Vermont "republic in gestation" is less like a Ben Franklin than he is like a Ben "Pitchfork Ben" Tillman.   In his piece on "forced integration" Naylor seems to confirm the closeness of his positions to that of his segregationist father. [10]
While researching for this post I came across this,
"Next to fried food, the South has suffered most from oratory." - Walter Hines PageThomas Naylor and his segregationist/moth-like attraction to the light of the "forced integration" issue would seem to confirm that by his essay on the topic.

Welcome back T. Rowley!
Always refreshing to see a new blog entry. Keep us up with all the new information. You never now what kind of PR stunt SVR and co. will come up with next and it's worth keeping tabs on these guys.
Thanks as always!
You are a smear artist -- I've just read a lot of material at Naylor's site and find nothing racist at all.

Apparently you haven't bothered to read the material here and at other sites. No matter. You're entitled to your opinion -- even an uninformed one.
seperatists in Quebec look south with affection at Vermont ,What they already know ,you must learn . There is no leaving the Union Once the eagles claws are in you .
There can be no serperation without
fierce battles between Vermonters ,between Americans.
Civil war is the only recourse ,
We all know how that turns out.
Lets not pretend and bloat our egos with fancifull ideas to the contrary.
Vermont is an Idealyc place ,I had been there many times living in Montreal .I must say its almost heaven, from the Quebec Eastern Townships south to and including all of New England ,such a beautifull place to live and grow up. the hues of autumn, the greeness or summers and the whites of winter are unbelievable beauty,if it wasn't for the mud of spring it would be heaven.
Do not dishearten yourself ,withdraw from humanity due to the uglyness of what the world around you has become, No dear neighbor lift your hearts for we cannot nor will not stand without you .We must pull together in times of distress it is times of dispair that define our characters and make us strong . Did the green moutain boys withdraw from humanity, did Ethan Allen latdown and give up in the face of war. I tell you dear neighbor ,you must not withdraw, you must not lay down, you must stand up and be strong.America needs you now ,to be strong,to infuse it with the greemountain spirit, which will add to the chorus of others to lift it out of the gutter of dispair.
Those that call for seperation are not green moutain spirited men.
they are losers that do the opposite of what the green mountain boys did.
Take it from Quebec ,in their hearts they want to seperate but in the back of the minds they already know that the deck was rigged along time ago.It may now seem like you look up and into the dark and empty sky,but I submit that it is your perspective, not what can be.

Dave... "It's sad that governments (and the secessionist movement) are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life..." -Ten Bears
Sorry for the movie cliché but after the drama that's arisen during the past few months due to the hamfisted mis-handling by Naylor, et al, your clear statement of what's really happened in Québéc and how it could relate to us here is refreshing.
I've been conversing, so to speak, with a proponent of New Hampshire's Free State Project. He claims the the Parti Québécois experience can serve as the model for New Hampshire. It's like he's comparing apples to apple crates. And he's an assistant professor, no less. He comes across like the political science equivalent of a Dr. Laura and it's been hilarious!
Anyway, I appreciate your comment and thanks for visiting.

So Anonymous Blogger, does that mean that Jason Sorens knows who you REALLY are and isn't telling?? Say what you want about people, but this hiding behind Thomas Rowley is disgusting.
If your power is in the pen ,then use it lift your self and your country men to new heights.Do not use it to bring false dreams and misery to your countrymen.
The red man gave the white man hope and understanding, but they did not heed his words, instead they
tried to exterminate him.
take that lesson ,learn from it.
We live in perilous times ,Americans must stick together today more than ever.
But most of all do not dispair, the light of freedom will never be extinguished. There are those that plan to destroy you, they plan behind closed doors, manipulate your money and own all the international companies. These people want a nwo of slavery ,American patriots , deviders, the christian faith, the Constitution, are among their targets.
I want Americans to know that Canadians look south and stand ready to help, our hand is streched in friendship ,it will never be withdrawn.
May God bless and keep you happy
Dave
