"The Cheese Stands Alone"

Some say that over the years I've been a tad tough on the publisher of the Vermont secessionist's hate blog, Rob Williams or as I came to call him because he so richly deserved to be, Rob "Baghdad Rob" Williams, that's gone by a few names - Vermont Commons; 2VR; or now a supposed E-Zine, also called 2VR, which is nothing more than a pretentious descriptor of the scattered remains of a barely publishing (last post was two months ago) hate blog . But that's always been the right thing to do.

Rob and the Vermont secessionist movement's strategy has always been to step through the side door of Vermont politics, whether by the founder, Thomas H. Naylor's far-fetched schemes to 1) draft then U.S. Representative Bernie Sanders as the secesh gubernatorial candidate: or 2) when that failed, Naylor's handpicked choice for Vermont guv was a marionette Connecticut native by the name of Dennis Steele who's qualifications seem to come down to that he and Naylor's shared an equal distaste for the Jews and his resemblance to the Brawny Towel Guy (Steele managed to garner a fraction of one percent of the vote, or as he liked to call it, third.); or 3) the wildly unlikely plot to get every Vermont town meeting in the mid-teens of the 21st century to have a secession article on their warrants and for the Vermont legislature to vote by a two-thirds margin for articles of secession to be submitted to the Feds. At one of Naylor's meaningless scheduling of a "meeting" in the Vermont Statehouse General Assembly chambers (a venue available to all Vermonters, not just the seceshers), Steele attended as el commandante of the Green Mountain Brigade who then later morphed himself into the Vermont seceshers "peace" candidate. Steele's Green Mountain Brigade (a "brigade" of one?) argued that Vermont's constitution required that all "freemen" own a weapon and were subject to service requirements of the State militia. As a "peace" candidate, Steele eventually took down his website but photos (and screencaps) still remain of his standing at a Green Mountain Brigade identified lectern; an image of the "peaceful" Che Guevara adorned the Steele campaign website and literature throughout his campaign; a link to his copyright challenged web radio station still remains at the pseudo-sovereign citizen website for Rogers' Rangers Twin State Militia.

As I've noted in several earlier posts, all the political wannabes of the Vermont seceshers have pretty much given up on the entering Vermont's body politic via the side door - Gaelan "There's a NASA & Aliens Conspiracy to Extract Minerals From the Dark Side of the Moon" Brown, Jim "Revolutionary Era Cross-Dresser" Hogue, Gus Jaccaci, Terry Jeroloman, James Merriman, Dennis "Hit List" Morrisseau, and would be "Senator" Robert "Needed Killin' " Wagner, to name much of the crew.

The new thrust of the remaining tiny group is primarily that in order to start the ball rolling for secession Vermont must first establish a public bank, so as to begin extracting itself from the larger Federal economy. This effort is being led by Hogue and the creator of a seditious plot to usurp the authority of the Supreme Court by secretly "re-constituting" the Vermont Council of Censors whose membership would be limited to committed seceshers, Gary "The Rocket Scientist" Flomenhoft. A new ally in the effort, although not completely convinced that secession is attainable is, Gwen "The Hacker Baiter" Hallsmith, whose other e-paper hat is as "Executive Director" of the California based Public Banking Institute. This group calls itself Vermonters for a New Economy and their primary function is to lobby the Vermont legislature with methodologically challenged "studies" that garble the true facts.

What remains as unfinished business is why I write today.

Eight years ago the dead founder of the equally dead secesher movement, Second Vermont Republic, the Dixie singin' Thomas H. Naylor and his Renfield-like then co-chairman, Rob Williams convened a convention in Burlington, VT to which they invited various racists and homophobes like the Hawaiian Independence Movement, the Alaska Independence Party, Exodus and, perhaps most notably, the openly racist League of the South. Laughably, Williams sat next to LoSer convicted felon and Board member Franklin Sanders and they agreed that "Secession is not a racist plot."

A few years later when the stink of LoSer racism became so overpowering that it resulted in a piece written by the Southern Poverty Law Center ( based largely on material developed on this and two other Vermont blogs), Naylor wrote a disingenuous plea for the LoS to renounce racism. The SPLC wrote about that here
"So long as the albatross of racism hangs around its neck, the LOS can never be a truly effective partner for SVR," Naylor wrote in July. He also suggested that the league renounce racism, recruit black members, bring in black speakers and promote Southern racial unity. "The Confederate flag," he added, "has got to go!"
but apparently Naylor and Rob had second thoughts, so they disappeared the letter from their websites. Portions of the letter can still be found at the crypto-Fascist website run by Keith Preston called AttackTheSystem here. And, as if to underscore their change of heart, Naylor, Williams and their flack, Christopher Ketcham, attended a conference sponsored by an LoS founder, Donald Livingston. The racist bonafides of the all white session can be found in the fact that it was held at Livingston's conference venue, his own "Abbeville Institute," is so named for the plantation of slaver champion John Calhoun who once lectured Congress about the good things of slavery.

When I challenged Williams about his support of the racist founder of the League of the South, Williams responded cavalierly,
""Is (Livingston) a racist? I don't know. And frankly, it is none of my damn business, at a personal level."
SOURCE (don't bother, Williams has killed the link)
Gary "The Rocket Scientist" Flomenhoft has whined in a frothingly long-winded comment on their hate blog,
"Rob Williams made one thoughtless comment and you have crucified him for the next three years."
Actually, it's been seven years but who's counting? In fact, today is the fourth anniversary of this profoundly dumb boast on his supposedly "top secret" Free Vermont listserv that reeks of hubris,
"Since most Americans have been conditioned by years of corporate media training to associate anti-Israeli sentiment with Anti Semitism, talking about the Israeli Mafia smacks of antiSemitism blah blah. Holocaust, SVR are racists, etc ad nauseum. I have spent 4 years defusing the SVR/LOS nonsense and it is finally done, even in the blogosphere. Why go there again?"
Happy anniversary, Rob!

Yet, despite the Vermont seceshers own inability to get notice or traction for the fantasy of an independent Vermont, secession has been much in the news of late, although you wouldn't know it if you've been reading Rob's hate blog for the past few months.

Rather than abide or observe Naylor's admonitions six years ago that "the league renounce racism, recruit black members, bring in black speakers and promote Southern racial unity. "The Confederate flag,"... has got to go," the League of the South's racism is now front and center, no black members have been recruited (imagine that), no black speakers, and, by choice, attacks on diversity, rather than promotions of unity, are the theme of the present LoS plan. The LoS did take up Naylor on the flag thing and has a new one reminiscent of the Confederate battle flag except that that they've adopted a more Al Qaeda/ISIL-like black and white color scheme. Along with the new flag is a new, more blatantly aggressive and, yes, terroristic tone. The LoS now "openly fantasizes" about waging war against the Feds and the media,
"In 4Gen Warfare the lines between the military and the political, economic, cultural, and social are blurred past the point of recognition. To oversimplify, the primary targets will not be enemy soldiers; instead, they will be political leaders, members of the hostile media, cultural icons, bureaucrats, and other of the managerial elite without whom the engines of tyranny don’t run."

You can read much, much more on this coming insurrection in the Salon piece here.

The time is long past due for Rob Williams, one of the last remaining figures of authority in the Vermont secesher movement, to set aside, if only for a moment, his improbable and contrived scheme for an "emerging" Vermont "independence movement" and to address the truly crazy turn of events at the League of the South. This seven year slow dance with felons and racists and neo-Nazis must come to an end. Williams has no choice but to join the swelling ranks of Americans who renounce and denounce the League's call to arms and assassination or he will forever be associated with the scum that once sat so proudly on his advisory board.

It's time, Rob. Put up or shut up. It's the right thing to do.

UPDATE 4:00 PM: Spe-lunk-er has a pretty good example of the new, neo-Nazi Hitler LoSer Youth types that now typify the recruit demographic of the present day League of the South here.
